Temple Emanu-El Endowment Fund
The Temple Emanu-El Endowment was established in 2007. The Endowment Fund invests the assets it has been entrusted with to support the mission and vision of Temple Emanu-El for present and future generations. Over the 17 years of the Endowment, the fund has grown an average of 3.3% and has provided the Temple with approximately $230,000. All of this was accomplished with only one small stock donation added to the initial $500,000.
HOW TO DONATE YOUR REQUIRED MINIMUM IRA DISTRIBUTION TO THE TEMPLE EMANU-EL ENDOWMENT FUND
At June’s Annual Meeting, Barbara spoke to you about the Endowment Committee’s goal to grow our Endowment to a million dollars. We truly believe this is an achievable goal! Having a million dollars in the Endowment would enable the Endowment Committee to give 5% or $50,000 on a yearly basis to support the ongoing success and sustainability of Temple Emanu-El.
HERE IS HOW TO MAKE THIS HAPPEN:
The check for your minimum distribution (which will include what you would have paid in income tax) must come directly from the Custodian of your IRA.
The check will be mailed directly from your Custodian to:
National Financial Services
29 Sawyer Road
Waltham, MA 02453
For Security Reasons, we cannot publish here how to make out the check. If you are generously planning on donating your Minimum Distribution, please email Barbara Senges, Chair of the Endowment Committee at professeur38@me.com.
DID YOU KNOW THAT THERE IS AN ENDOWMENT FUND INCLUDED IN THE RESTRICTED FUNDS FOR CHARITABLE DONATIONS?
As donations to this specific restricted fund grow, they will be invested in the Endowment portfolio. Your donations will help us reach our goal of $1,000,000.00!
So please remember the Endowment Fund when making your donation to the Restricted Funds. The Endowment Fund ensures the sustainability of Temple Emanu-El for the future.
DID YOU KNOW?
…If you own or run a local business, you can advertise in the Temple Emanu-El Bulletin for only $18 per month or $165 for 11 issues (summer is a double-issue). In other words, it will cost only about 7 cents to reach each reader household each month and if you advertise in each issue, for 6 cents per reader household, your ad will be seen 11 times. Contact the Temple Office at (860) 443-3005 if you’re interested in advertising.
…If you’re planning a birthday party or baby shower but don’t want to host a large number of attendees in your own home, you can rent the Temple’s social hall, kitchen, and/or classrooms for your event. If you do want to plan the event at home or in your backyard but find you need to rent tables and chairs, you can also rent those from the Temple (tables are $5 per table per day and chairs are $3 per chair per day). Contact the Temple Office at (860) 443-3005 for more information.

Feeding the Hungry During Tishri
On Yom Kippur we read prophetic words of Isaiah that remind us of the Divine imperative that food and water be available for all in our community. The harvest festival of Sukkot reminds us that many of us have abundant resources to share. Let us thank God for our abundance by sharing with those in need. The Gemma E. Moran United Way Food Center is in need of our help. Upon arriving at all services, please place your food donations in the bins in the foyer. The mitzvah will leave you with a good taste.

Last year we created a more environmentally sound Tashlich practice. You are still welcome to bring breadcrumbs. However, we will provide pebbles and small stones polished by the sea. We will gather in spiritual reflection on our past transgressions before casting the stones weighing us down back into the sea. This will be an act of hope for the future. Sukkah Buildng Party
For Sukkot the Board of Trustees and Brotherhood will need volunteers to put up and take down the Sukkah. Help build the Sukkah on Wednesday, September 27, at 5:00 P.M. Our Sukkah is very large, so we need a lot of material for the roof (Schach, in Hebrew). Please bring materials for the Sukkah any time after Yom Kippur. Materials can be piled next to the permanent Sukkah framing that is on the east side of our parking lot. Things like ornamental grasses or cornstalks are ideal for the roof (schach).
